Church of Santa Gertrudis
Temple with an atypical colourful façade and a large bell tower, built in the 18th century
The construction of the church of Santa Gertrudis was ordered by the first bishop of Ibiza, Manuel Abad y Lasierra, in 1785, as was the case with many other rural churches. Work began a decade later and the church was inaugurated in 1797.
The building, with a single nave, has undergone numerous modifications over time. At first it did not have a porch or the upper floor above it. The new bell tower, much larger than the previous one and that of other rural churches, was installed in the 19th century. You will see a new chapel attached to the temple, built at the beginning of the 20th century.
The church draws attention due to its atypical colouring, as it is adorned with a grey stripe at the foot of the main façade and the bell tower and cornice are painted yellow.
